The CEO of the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) called on the channel to do more to explore potential green sales and service opportunities.

“Environmental sustainability is an important and growing focus for the IT industry,” said Frank Vitaliano.

GTDC is a global consortium of distributors, including Exclusive Networks, Exertis, Ingram Micro, Infinigate, CMS Distribution and Arrow Electronics, which claims its members generate approximately $ 150 billion (€ 127.34 billion) in annual global sales of products, services and solutions through the channel.

In a new study – The IT industry is embracing environmental sustainability – GTDC highlighted some of the ways in which the channel already supports global efforts for environmental sustainability.

Prominent initiatives include assessing companies’ current environmental impacts to establish a baseline and develop environmental sustainability plans covering cross-sections from countries with different regulations, standards and cultural norms.

It also looks at the potential opportunities in the industry to drive further change through thought leadership.

“Distributors are committed to and provide mental leadership in this area, and with many initiatives already in place, they continue to improve their goals and reporting capabilities,” said Vitaliano.
