SAN JOSE, CA (California)CROWN) – A 3-year-old girl was tortured and killed by her family while performing an embarrassing exorcism-like ritual, casting out a demon, according to court documents.

Areli died at a small church in San Jose, California, after being strangled by her mother, uncle and grandfather on Sept. 24, according to Santa Clara County prosecutors.

The girl’s family “believed that the child was possessed by a demon and they prayed for her in the church,” according to court documents, Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Wise.

“The victim’s grandfather has been identified as the leader of the church and claims to be a certified pastor,” Wise wrote.

Areli’s mother, Claudia Eliza Hernandez, 25, of Mountain View, was charged on February 2 with a crime against a child with a force that could cause grievous bodily harm. Hernandez is currently behind bars without a guarantee.

Information about the torturous murder was never made public by the San Jose Police Department or the District Attorney’s Office. However, the newly discovered court documents describe in detail what, according to investigators, happened to Areli.

Hernandez was interviewed by police officers on September 24 and 25. During the interviews, the mother told police that on September 23, she began to believe that Areli was “possessed” because the 3-year-old girl periodically woke up in the middle of the night crying or screaming.

On September 24, at 6:30 a.m., Areli’s mother and uncle took her to church. The girl’s mother, uncle, and grandfather held Areli by the neck, torso, and legs for several hours. They tried to make her vomit by inserting fingers and hands down her throat.

Areli lost consciousness and suffered “multiple injuries to his eyes, face, neck and chest,” Wise wrote in court documents.

Areli died around 6:30 p.m. after 12 hours of torture, court documents said. Hernandez told police no one provided medical assistance to help the girl before or after her death.

The family waited until 8:12 p.m. to call 911. When paramedics arrived, they found Areli’s lifeless body on the church floor. The forensic doctor determined that her death was a murder caused by suffocation and suffocation.

Hernandez was the only person arrested in connection with the case.

Prosecutors have called on Judge Luis Ramos to deny bail, as Hernandez poses a risk to public safety and is considered a risk of absconding.

“She was born in El Salvador, has minimal community ties and is considered a high-risk flight,” Wise wrote.

Prosecutors noted the extreme atrocities Hernandez allegedly inflicted on his daughter. “She strangled her several times to the point where the victim fainted, she put her hands in her throat and continued this course of behavior for most of the day,” Wise wrote.

Strange video on YouTube

A video uploaded to YouTube in January, four months after Areli’s death, appears to show the mother talking about her daughter’s death.

The video on YouTube is titled Areli’s full name, Areli Naomi Proctor Hernandez.

The woman in the video says, “Everyone wants to know what happened to her, you know, the cause of her death. Many people turned against me after my daughter died; many people thought a lot about what this situation looked like. If you haven’t been there, you don’t know what happened. I know what happened. “

“She was with me when she died. Of course I’m her mother, why isn’t she with me? says the woman.

The self-shot video is 40 minutes long. Sometimes a woman smiles and laughs while chewing gum.

“I can sit here and be negative. But there is no point in doing it. “I can’t change what it is. It’s like that,” she said.

She continues: “There are many reasons why God took her. At least she doesn’t suffer. In this world we suffer so much, especially today. Everything is so bad. Everything is going down. I am grateful for that. That she will not grow up in the world we live in. ”

“It’s hard to think I won’t see her grow. But you know, it’s all right. Everything is fine, because I know it’s in a better place. God knows why he allowed these things. My baby was such a happy baby. Being a mother is one of the best things. Of course, when I think about her, I feel sad, cry and miss her, ”the woman said.

Hernandez was indicted by prosecutors six days after uploading the video to YouTube.

She faces up to 25 years in prison if sentenced to life in prison.

The church is associated with the abducted baby

San Jose Church is located inside a purple house that was buried by police last month as they searched abducted baby.

A woman accused of kidnapping the boy Jesse Guadalupe Ramirez is reportedly a member of the church. Prosecutors say Ramirez planned with a second kidnapper, Jose Ramon Portillo, to get the boy out of his grandmother’s apartment.

The grandmother told the media that she met Ramirez through the church and the two women became friends.

The 3-month-old baby was hidden for 20 hours at Portilo’s home in San Jose before being rescued by police.

“The motive behind the strange kidnapping in broad daylight remains under investigation,” prosecutors wrote.
