In its latest brand defense report, Amazon revealed that it invested more than $ 900 million (£ 716.83 million) last year in protecting customers, brands, retailers and stores from counterfeiting, fraud and other forms of abuse. .
Amazon is also investing more than 12,000 people, including machine learning scientists, software developers and expert researchers, in the same cause.
In total, Amazon reportedly stopped more than 2.5 million attempts to create fraudulent sales accounts, preventing “bad guys” from posting a single product for sale.
That’s less than more than six million attempts in the previous year, due to “stable” vendor inspections and products, along with efforts to hold impersonators accountable to deter people from trying to sell on Amazon.
Darmesh Mehta, Amazon’s vice president of affiliate sales, said: “Our team continues to innovate to stay ahead of the bad guys while working in partnership with rights holders, law enforcement and other experts to ensure that customers can continue to shop with confidence.
“While we are proud of the progress we have made, we will not stop until we bring zero counterfeits to our store.”
