The second developer preview of Android 15 is now out and all the enthusiasts are eagerly exploring the new version. While some users are just testing the software, developers are digging into the code to uncover some features in the new operating system update. The latest discovery is a switch to disable the default frame rate for games. Curiously, this switch disables the 60Hz cap and allows gaming reached peak frame rate performance. If your hardware is capable, games will break the 60fps limit.
Android 15 Developer Preview 2 to let you break the 60 FPS barrier on Android
Currently, Android mostly limits games to 60 fps. Developers should enable higher frame rates on a device-by-device basis. With the new Universal Switch, it looks like Android is toying with the idea of unlocking the potential for higher frame rates in a wide format.
The setting is currently present in the developer options of Android 15 Developer Preview 2. Of course, you will need to unlock the developer settings. This can be done by tapping the build number in the software tab of your phone multiple times. The feature was created for developers to try and test their games at higher frame rates. However, having this feature in the developer options means that power users will also be able to take advantage of it.
This feature allows for some interesting possibilities for mobile gaming enthusiasts. Users won’t have to rely on modded apps or patches that require root to unlock 60fps games. With this universal switch, enabling 90 fps and higher frame rates can be much easier. Of course, we have to wait and see how this feature works. If it successfully makes its way to the final version of Android 15, then it will open up new experiences for Android mobile gamers.
