Android Studio will soon make it easier for developers to fix corrupted user interfaces when using their apps on a Chromebook.

Chromebook users have been suffering from all sorts of issues since Google turned on Android app support. Many of these problems stem from how Android apps respond when they encounter free-form windows and other desktop features.

Android Studio’s Electric Eel will bring with it the new Android Virtual Desktop Device (AVD).

In one messageThe Google Chrome OS team wrote:

“The Chromebook Android app experience isn’t always completely satisfying for users, as most Android apps and games aren’t optimized for big screens. Applications face various compatibility issues that directly affect the user experience and satisfaction.

As more developers optimize their Chromebook apps, they are looking to test and validate their Chromebook app experience. ”

Google continues to say how developers will buy a Chromebook today, set it up in their development environment, and then deploy their application to the test device.

“It’s a lot of friction. We agree. It shouldn’t be that hard. With the launch of Desktop AVD, developers can now test their applications in a desktop environment without all this extra work, “Google writes.

The Android 12-based virtual desktop will allow developers to see how their applications behave with things like resizing a free-form window, dragging and dropping, keyboard and mouse input, landscape mode, notifications and more.

Google says it saw a 50 percent year-over-year increase in users engaged in Android apps on Chrome OS last year. With that in mind, it may be worthwhile to run Desktop AVD to make sure your applications work properly on Google’s desktop operating system.

Google’s annual developer conference I / O 2022is now just around the corner (May 11-12), so expect to hear a lot more during the week about what the company has to offer developers and users.
