Apple has launched a brand new security center to help find bugs and flaws

Apple introduced a new security center (opens in new tab) and an improved bounty hunting program as it looks to improve the way it detects and fixes various flaws and vulnerabilities in its ecosystem.

“Our innovative security technologies protect users on more than 1.8 billion active devices worldwide. Learn about the latest Apple security advances from our engineering teams, send us your own research, and work directly with us to be recognized and rewarded for helping us protect our users,” the new website reads.

The company’s rewards system has been upgraded, Apple said, claiming it has improved response times and simplified reporting and communication of issues.

Track progress

“First, we react much faster. Sometimes we received many more requests than we expected, so we expanded our team and worked hard to be able to complete an initial assessment of almost every report we received within two weeks and most within six days,” the company explain (opens in new tab).

“Our Apple Security Research site includes a new way to submit web research to us and receive real-time status updates. Just sign in with your Apple ID and follow the prompts to send us a detailed report. You can then track the progress of your report and communicate securely with Apple engineers while we investigate.”

The program will also be more transparent, Apple claims. The site includes detailed information about the Apple Security Bounty, as well as evaluation criteria. Reward categories include ranges and examples, helping bounty hunters determine where they want to focus their research and what kind of reward they can expect. “We have provided ranges for submissions that affect Apple’s services and infrastructure as well as our products,” he explains.
