It’s safe to say Diablo IV it didn’t go as smoothly as Blizzard probably hoped. Shortly after the beta launched on Friday, many players found themselves in long queues to log in. In my case, I had to wait nearly two hours before I got a chance to play the game, only to be quickly cut off after about 15 minutes.

Blizzard addressed the issue after players took to social media and the official Diablo IV complaint forums. “The team is working on some issues behind the scenes that are affecting players and causing them to be disconnected from the servers,” Blizzard said in its on the subject. “This is done so that we can provide stability among players entering the game after the queuing process.”

If you’re waiting to play, Blizzard asks that you stay in the login queue so you don’t reset your timer. The studio said there will be a more precise countdown to the start of the open beta next weekend, when anyone who wants to try Diablo IV before he can do so. “We are actively working on these issues for this weekend,” Blizzard said. “Once these are resolved, we will be able to increase player flow and queue times will be significantly reduced.”

Later in the day, the studio shared , noting that it’s also working to resolve several other issues that players have reported, including a bug that prevented some from joining parties. From Saturday afternoon the queue to play Diablo IV it was much shorter. I got to the character selection screen in less than a minute. “Many players have successfully logged into the game, but we are aware that some have experienced longer than expected wait times,” Blizzard said. “As we continue to roll out improvements to our server stability, we expect our players to see continuous improvements in queue times.”

Hiccups are to be expected during beta, especially when a studio is stress testing a live game like Diablo IV. The last thing Blizzard wants is a repeat Diablo III started when interest in the game overwhelmed’s login servers, preventing many from playing the game at all.
