Select Car Leasing has joined forces with Zap-Map, the UK’s leading charging point mapping service, to make driving an electric vehicle (EV) even more enjoyable.

The popular Zap-Map app allows users to search for available EV charging points while viewing live availability information. It also helps you plan trips, pay for charging and share updates with other EV drivers.

Now, every customer who leases an electric vehicle with Select Car Leasing will automatically receive three months of free access to Zap-Map’s highly coveted “Premium” service.

The highest Premium package of Zap-Map boasts a number of enhanced features that users cannot access with the free version of Zap-Map.

These include the ability to home charge charging points using various enhanced filters such as “user rating” and “multiple charging locations”, as well as adding an unlimited number of vehicles to the app and saving unlimited route plans.

Even better, Zap-Map Premium users also enjoy in-car support via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, meaning EV drivers can find suitable charging points, see the status of charging points on live, access route plans and connect to turn-by-turn navigation apps, all while on the move.

David Lewis, head of electric vehicles and energy at Select, said:

“Select Car Leasing is fully behind the electric revolution as we help customers transition from conventionally fueled cars and vans to electrified models, so we’re delighted to partner with a platform that truly shares our ambitions.

“We want to make EV driving not only affordable and achievable, but also enjoyable and hassle-free.

“And with Zap-Map, the stress of finding and paying to charge an EV is completely erased.

“Zap-Map also has excellent environmental credentials backed by Good Energy Group PLC, a 100% renewable electricity supplier and energy service provider.

“And that’s really important to all of us here at Select and shows that we’re all singing from the same page when it comes to progressing towards zero-carbon mobility.”

Select Car Leasing EV customers will now receive three months of free access to Zap-Map Premium.

This month, Select Car Leasing announced an expansion of its electric vehicle division as interest in green transportation continues to grow.

The number of specialists with a primary focus on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has doubled.

Select has also expanded its dedicated Electric Vehicles and Energy division to ensure that all company departments, along with leasing consultants, are fully aware of EVs, charging, electricity tariffs, home and business power generation place, such as solar panels, and how all of these elements work together to save customers money and reduce their carbon footprint.

Melanie Shufflebottom, co-founder and COO at Zap-Map, said:

“I am delighted to announce Zap-Map’s partnership with Select Car Leasing today. Leasing is a fantastic way to access an EV, so it’s great to see Select expanding its electric vehicle division.

“Electric cars are now really entering the mass market. With more drivers switching to electric vehicles every month, all those new drivers will be looking for a place to charge, which is where Zap-Map comes in handy. Our focus is on making billing easy, and that’s exactly what the partnership between Select Car Leasing and Zap-Map helps achieve.

“We know it can sometimes be difficult to find suitable chargers while driving. By enabling in-car dashboard access to Zap-Map, our Premium offering makes driving an EV much more enjoyable. Select Car Leasing customers will now be able to view charging points, see live charging point status, access route plans and connect to a navigation app for turn-by-turn directions – all while on the move .”

Zap-Map Premium users enjoy in-car support via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Overall, Select’s all-electric new car sales now account for around a quarter (25%) of all the company’s car sales.

These reported sales are 75% ahead of the wider new car market, according to the latest SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) figures from September, with pure BEV registrations up 14.5% so far in 2022 Mr.

Speaking about the huge growth in electric cars, Mr Lewis added: “It’s clear that leasing and electric vehicles go hand in hand.”

The Select Electric division has also launched an innovative online fuel calculator that compares the annual cost of filling up a petrol or diesel car with filling up an EV.

The tool makes an instant price comparison based on the user’s mileage. If you drive around 10,000 miles a year, the tool suggests you could save over £1,000 a year – based on charging your electric vehicle at home at the new 34p guaranteed energy price rate, compared with the typical gasoline or diesel car getting fuel efficiency of about 40 mpg.
