Cisco is ready to offer the first fruits of its technology, which promises to enable businesses to proactively avoid network problems and increase application productivity.
At its Cisco Live event this week, the company unveiled the ThousandEyes WAN Insights service, which will allow Cisco SD-WAN customers to receive network forecasts and recommendations for SD-WAN policies to increase application performance and user experience on enterprise sites.
“Today’s hybrid work environments are incredibly complex, made up of extremely complex applications that are distributed across heterogeneous networks and accessible to end users from different locations who may have significantly different core network conditions,” said Mike Hicks, chief analyst at Cisco Solutions. ThousandEyes, wrote in a blog. “ThousandEyes WAN Insights helps IT operations teams anticipate change in these environments using data-driven analysis that gives them applicable networking recommendations to reduce problems and optimize performance on the Internet, cloud and SaaS.”
Once activated, ThousandEyes WAN Insights applies statistical models to Cisco SD-WAN vAnalytics path metrics to provide network forecasts and SD-WAN policy recommendations to optimize the user experience on enterprise sites, according to Hicks.
“It does this by constantly monitoring the behavior of each network path. As soon as historical data is available (approximately 24 hours minimum), ThousandEyes WAN Insights begins analyzing performance across all SD-WAN network sites to identify quality issues for multiple application categories, such as Office 365 and voice collaboration services. like Cisco’s Webex, “Hicks wrote.
“ThousandEyes WAN Insights follows the SD-WAN configuration for sites, peripherals and interfaces, continuously measuring and evaluating quality at the road level,” Hicks said. “If there is a problem with a particular site and it is likely to continue in the near future, WAN Insights recommends an alternative chain-level route to route outbound traffic to this site. These recommendations are given for each site and application category, using quality assessments that reflect the requirements of each application category. “
ThousandEyes WAN Insights is built in part with technology in the recently rendered predictive analytics engine that Cisco says it will offer through software as a service (SaaS) to help network operators quickly and accurately predict network problems before they happen. .
According to Cisco, its AI / ML-based forecasting system works by collecting telemetry data in the organization from routers, switches, servers and more. Once integrated, the engine aggregates data, learns models using different models and anticipates user experience problems, and provides specific troubleshooting options.
The engine looks at connectivity and quality of service when anticipating and planning alternative routes. Customers can decide how widely they want to connect the engine to the network by providing them with flexible expansion options, Cisco said.
The company said it has been building and testing predictable software engines for the past two years and will eventually offer it in its product range.
ThousandEyes WAN Insights is in preview.
