Elon Musk is a great brain in superiority. The tycoon cultivated the image of a Renaissance man with the power – and money – to solve the world’s greatest problems.

The 50-year-old revealed another bold goal last month: using brain implants to treat tinnitus within five years.

Skeptics suspect that deadlines are unrealistic – because they always are.

The richest man in the world has amassed a horn of plenty grandiose forecasts. Here are seven of the strangest.

Prediction 1: Tesla will achieve full self-driving “next year”
Reality: Next year never comes

Probably Musk’s most famous promises are his constant claims that Tesla will drive alone “next year”. He first made the forecast in 2014, but it is still far from the fact.

Until 2021, even Musk’s own engineers will not buy it. According to leaked comment by CJ MooreDirector of Tesla’s autopilot software, Level 5 autonomy remains a distant prospect.

“To Elon [claim] it doesn’t match the engineering reality for CJ, “said the California Department of Motor Vehicles to talk to Tesla employees. “Tesla is currently at level 2.”

But that feedback did not dull Musk’s optimism. In January, he assumed that fully self-governing (FSD) will arrive within 12 months – for the ninth consecutive year.

Forecast 2: 1 million Tesla robots on the road by 2020
Reality: 0 Tesla robotaxi on the road in 2022
