When you get a new Windows-based computer or upgrade your operating system, the first thing almost everyone does is open Microsoft’s Edge browser. But it’s not for surfing the web. The next step is usually to download Google’s Chrome browser.

Chrome is the most used browser worldwide and has more than 3.2 billion devices. Tap or click here for ways to make Chrome safer. In terms of market share, other browsers such as Mozilla’s Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Opera are not close.

But Firefox has just reached an impressive stage and added some new features. Read on to find out why it might be worth taking another look at the Mozilla browser.

Here is the background

As browser wars heat up, it wasn’t smooth for Firefox. It is constantly losing users, and earlier this month Microsoft’s Edge overtook Apple’s Safari as the second most used browser. As a result, Firefox dropped to fourth place with only 7.8% of the market, according to research from StatCounter.

However, not everything is bad news for Firefox. Its latest update pushed it above the magic number of version 100. The road to get there was not the most slippery. The first version of Firefox appeared in 2004, and since its only competitor was an early version of Internet Explorer, it quickly gained 30% market share in eight years.

But as other browsers like Safari and Chrome get better, many will argue that Mozilla has lost focus with Firefox. Some believe Mozilla has wasted too much effort on things like VR technology, sponsored tiles, and chat services to notice that Firefox is lagging behind.

Firefox has focused on security and privacy with later versions to bring back some lost users. Mozilla bombards you with all its security features when you go to the official one download page.

Do you need to try Firefox again?

Firefox claims to be better at many things than other browsers. Although it has a privacy mode like the others, it will block third-party tracking cookies by default and cryptocurrency digging scripts. Mozilla also claims to be blocking social trackers. But they also do Edge, Safari and Brave.

Mozilla outlines all the differences between Firefox and six other browsers to increase downloads. While there are things like a browser screen capture tool and autoplay lock that Chrome doesn’t have, these features are available in Microsoft Edge.

These features are standard for the browser, but what does Firefox version 100 offer? The update includes many features that can push you in its favor. Here are some features to look forward to:

  • Picture-in-Picture now also supports video captions for websites that use the WebVTT (Web Video Text Track) format.
  • Firefox now supports captions / subtitles displayed on YouTube, Prime Video and Netflix videos that you watch in the picture within the picture.
  • Now it detects when its language does not match the language of the operating system and offers you a choice between the two languages.
  • Spell checker in Firefox now checks spelling in multiple languages.
  • HDR video is now supported in Firefox on the Mac, starting with YouTube.

It’s always a good idea to update your browser. Here are the steps to update Firefox to the latest version:

  • Open Firefox and click the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines).
  • Click It will help and go to About Firefox.
  • IN About Mozilla Firefox the window will open and Firefox will check for updates and download them automatically.
  • When the download is complete, click Restart to update Firefox.

If you do not have Firefox on your devices, it is available for Desktop, iOS and Android.
