Flusso today announced another breakthrough for the flow sensor market: the world’s smallest air velocity sensor. The FLS122 has a footprint of just 3.5 by 3.5 mm, making it 80% smaller than today’s least competitive device.
Flusso’s FLS122 sensor has been specifically designed to measure on-board air speed for heat management and filter monitoring in some of the most space-constrained and challenging environments. It will also help the company further expand its flow measurement offering to address even more applications across major industrial, medical and consumer markets.
Targeted applications include data centers and gaming computers that rely on efficient air cooling for maximum productivity and energy efficiency, as well as consumer appliances such as HVACs, air purifiers and vacuum cleaners.
The FLS122 is designed to support two-way flow reading and provide real-time temperature and air velocity measurements of up to 20 meters per second. The new sensor is designed for easy and inexpensive integration and uses a CMOS MEMS matrix derived from that used in the award-winning Flusso FLS110 mass flow sensor.
The FLS122 uses the same new integration concept as the FLS110, which allows manufacturers to decide how and where to integrate it and to balance system performance with cost depending on their requirements.
The new sensor will come with a full suite of supporting materials, including an evaluation kit, hardware design manuals, sensor firmware and software development kit, and support for application engineering.
The FLS122 is integrated in a 6-pin DFN package with a specially designed “tunnel cover”, optimized to accurately measure the flow rate with little or no pressure drop required in the flow path. FLS122 models are available to qualified customers upon request.
Its new air speed sensor is one of Flusso’s many new innovations, which will be on display for the first time at this week’s Sensor + Test 2022 event in Germany (May 10-12), where the company will be on stand 1-331 / 1. FLS122 will also attend the Sensors Converge in San Jose, California (June 27-29), where Flusso will be at booth # 1024.
