Award-winning multiplayer game publisher Kwalee opens its fourth global office in Almada, Portugal.

This development is the latest in an incredible period of growth since 2020, during which Kwalee expanded from its headquarters in Leamington Spa, UK, and opened international studios in Bangalore, India and Beijing, China.

With remote team members worldwide, the expansion means the company has employees in 18 countries.

Kwalee’s Almada office is expected to be the company’s technology hub, led by longtime chief technology officer Pedro Caria, who will also continue to oversee Kwalee’s technical teams around the world. On top of Kwalee’s research and development efforts, there will be exciting opportunities for those working in the Lisbon metropolitan area to tackle entirely new challenges in marketing and publishing games.

“The Lisbon metropolitan area has stood out as the perfect place for our first office in continental Europe thanks to its large pool of talent,” said Pedro Caria, Kwalee’s technical director.

With the region’s growing reputation as a starting point and talented graduates coming from so many excellent technical universities in the area, I believe we have the opportunity to break new ground in technology to solidify our status as the best mobile game publisher in the world. Besides, being born in Almada, I can personally guarantee how pleasant it is to live here! ”

Adjacent to Lisbon, Almada is known for its excellent quality of life with stunning beaches, bars and parks easily accessible from Kwalee’s new office location.

Vacancies at Kwalee’s Almada location are already available in server programming, talent acquisition and administration, with more to come. More than 170 jobs are available in Kwalee’s departments and global locations, including many remote opportunities.

This was already eventful in 2022 for Kwalee, which started the year with its first acquisition, including the French mobile storytelling studio Tictales as part of an expansion into hybrid-everyday and everyday mobile games.

This was followed by the success of Airport securitywho was among top 10 most downloaded games on Google Play in Februaryand in April it was named Kwalee Best publisher at the mobile game awards.

“It’s been a really exciting year so far and we have a lot more to do,” said enthusiastic Kwalee CEO David Darling.

“Our team from Portugal will be at the heart of our technical proposal as the world’s leading publisher, and Pedro has proven to be the right person to lead our new location.”
