Google IO 2022 was full of surprises, because along with the expected announcements, the company is annoying and similar to Pixel 7 and even a new Pixel Tablet.
This came as a complete surprise, as apart from the job posting, there were no previous signs that Google was working on a new plan. But Google has not only confirmed that it is working on one, but even showed images on the Pixel tablet and shared the first details.
Then below you will find everything we have heard so far about the Google Pixel tablet. At the moment, this is basically what Google told us, but we expect leaks and rumors to start spreading soon, and it’s good to add them to this article once they do.
Cut to the chase
- What is? Upcoming tablet from Google
- When does it come out? 2023
- How much will it cost? I still have no idea
Google Pixel tablet release date and price
Google has confirmed that it is aiming to launch the Pixel Tablet sometime in 2023, so there is plenty of time to wait before it is available for purchase.
The company has not become more specific than this, but we can guess when we can see it, as there are two moments in the year when Google tends to launch new hardware. The first is Google IO, which is almost always held in May.
Then there’s the release of new numbered Pixel models, which happens at the end of the year, usually – but not always – in October. So during one of these events, it would be obvious time for Google to release the Pixel Tablet, but it is quite possible that the tablet will be introduced at another time in 2023.
Of the two possible options, we believe that October is the most likely, as Google did not sound certain that the list will even be released by the end of 2023 – rather, this is simply the company’s goal. So there is probably still a lot of work to be done.
So far we have no idea how much the tablet will cost. We can’t even guess, as the company hasn’t released any other tablets recently, and we don’t know how high-end the Google Pixel tablet is.
News and rumors
Google has shared some images on the Pixel tablet, two of which you can see above.
The sheet is shown here in white with a curved back, fairly large frames around the screen and a camera with one lens both front and rear.
From the design – which is a bit like the Google Home Hub without the stand – we think it will probably be mid-range rather than high-end, so it may be a competitor to the base iPad 10.2 or iPad Air (2022). than the iPad Pro 11 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
In addition to a brief look at it, Google also revealed that the tablet will use the company’s Tensor chipset (which is currently in the Pixel 6 range). However, given that it will not appear until 2023, we would expect that the as yet unannounced second or third generation of the chipset will be used, not the current one.
Of course, we also know that the Pixel tablet will work with Android – in particular either Android 13 or Android 14, depending on when it launches in 2023. Since it is a Google device, it will certainly get many software updates – and you will receive them in a timely manner.
But it won’t be the Android tablet experience, as you may know, because Google is working to improve things on the boards, with Android 13 set to bring a redesigned interface designed to make the most of larger screens.
In addition, we can speculate that it may have the same 50MP rear camera as the Pixel 6, as Google is reluctant to change the camera hardware it uses too often, and this was a new sensor for the range.
