Google is rolling out new features for the first-generation Pixel Watch, and they include the health monitoring capabilities that launched with its successor. Older wearables will now be able to detect if you’re exercising and can automatically start tracking your activity and then stop when you’re done. In particular, it works for running, walking, elliptical training, spinning, outdoor cycling and rowing.

You’ll also be able to track the time you spend in different heart rate zones, which can help you optimize your workouts. You’ll also be able to set a target pace for your training sessions to get notified when you’re not performing up to par. In case you want your first-gen Pixel Watch to help you feel more relaxed instead, just launch the Fitbit Relax app on the device to guide you through some breathing exercises.

For travelers, though, Google’s most exciting watch update isn’t just for the Pixel line. The company has launched public transport directions for devices running Wear OS 3 and above, meaning you can check what kind of public transport you can take right on your wrist – it’ll even show real-time departure schedules on your public transport options. You’ll also now be able to navigate an unfamiliar location without taking out your phone via a compass-enabled map view on your watch.

The company is also rolling out features for various devices under its Pixel line. Pixel phones will now be able to share 10-bit HDR videos directly to Instagram Reels and will be able to upload Ultra HDR photos to the app. Additionally, the Pixel 8’s Search Circle feature is coming to the Pixel 7 and Pixel Pro phones, giving you a quick way to make search queries without having to switch apps. All you have to do is circle or highlight an image, video or piece of text to search for the information you need. Finally, the “Call Screen” feature will give you access to a “hello” chip that you can tap while a call is being checked. Google Assistant can ask the caller to speak so you get an idea of why they’re calling, and it can also ask them to wait a little longer if you still can’t answer their call.
