Harwin’s Hi-Rel connectors provide greater board-to-board distance

New Datamate introduced with increased body height

Portsmouth, UK, 19 July 2022 – To support the full range of customer applications, Harwin is adding another option to its popular Datamate series of high-reliability (Hi-Rel) connectors.

Complementing the existing range of Datamate J-Tek connectors (supplied with screws for secure mounting) with a 7.3mm board-to-board height when mated, the new female connector gives a significantly increased connection height of 17.15mm. Providing more space between PCBs allows designers the flexibility to use larger board-mounted components or wiring options.

Like all products in the Datamate portfolio, these new connectors provide industry-leading resistance to temperature, vibration and shock. As a result, they ensure reliable long-term operation even when deployed in the most demanding environments and supporting safety-critical applications. In addition, board mounting screws provide stress relief for the solder ends, and guide posts aid in bonding.

Datamate extended-pitch connectors will benefit engineers developing high-end industrial, aerospace, defense systems and heavy-duty portable equipment. They are available in double row layouts with 10, 20 or 30 pin versions and are compatible with existing male connectors through the board. All mating contact surfaces are finished in gold and the ends are gold or tin. “Feedback from our customer base has shown that there are times when more board separation is needed,” says Ryan Smart, head of product marketing at Harwin. “These new extended Datamate connector profiles offer the stack heights required for such applications while maintaining a high degree of mechanical strength and reliability.”
