We know the Google Pixel 6a is on the way, and a new leak suggests it may be on the road very soon: production of the mid-range phone has apparently already begun, which means it won’t be long before we get it see.
This comes from a well-known tipster Mukul Sharmawhich says production has started in Asia and is now “forthcoming” – a forecast that coincides with other rumors we hear about Google Pixel 6a.
It looks like Google Pixel 6a is likely to appear at the Google IO 2022 event, which begins on May 11. The conference is seemingly a software showcase, but has been used to introduce new hardware in the past.

Previous leaks
The Google Pixel 5a received its grand presentation on August 17, 2021, but it looks like the option may appear earlier this year. Pixel 5a was released only in the United States and Japan due to the continuing shortage of chips affecting companies around the world.
Google itself has revealed the name of the upcoming Pixel 6a and we expect it to follow the example of the Pixel 6, which was released last year: the design will be in similar lines, it seems, and the phone will be powered by the same Tensor chipset.
Unofficial leaks have given us more insight into what may be around the corner in terms of the aesthetics of the Google Pixel 6a – although all indications are that we won’t have to wait much longer to see it for ourselves.
Analysis: This may be Google’s biggest hit to date
Although Google did not reveal how many units have replaced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, company executives said that the latest Pixels are the fastest-selling phones in the Pixel series so far.
This is encouraging news if you are Google, and the Pixel 6a is ideally positioned to build on that success. From what we’ve heard so far, it sounds like the phone will retain many of the best parts of the Pixel 6, while putting it in a more affordable package.
While the limited availability of the Pixel 5a has damaged its chances of leaving a major mark in the consumer market, these cheaper editions of Pixel’s flagships have offered much appeal in the past – back in 2019 and Google Pixel 3a.
Now it depends on the Pixel 6a to deal with similar to the iPhone SE (2022) and we think there is a very good chance. As always, pricing will be crucial: the Pixel 5a went on sale for $ 449 (which works like around £ 365 or AU $ 635).
