Today’s CIOs and IT leaders are increasingly asked to balance three key priorities in their businesses: to transform digitally to scale faster and find new sources of revenue; achieving operational achievements by reducing costs; and improving employee and customer experiences by increasing revenue satisfaction.
In the latter Status of the CIO 2022 study, one of the top priorities of CEOs for IT leaders next year is to get them to lead digital business and digital transformation initiatives and improve the customer experience. Yet many CIOs continue to report that much of their time is devoted to improving IT operations and system performance – essentially trying to keep the lights on.
Fortunately, automation is also seen as a key component that can help CIOs achieve these three key priorities. In the same survey, 79% of IT leaders said automation of business and / or IT processes has increased in importance in the last six to 12 months.
“Automation is a silver bullet that can not only achieve operational efficiency, but can also accelerate the path to digital growth that many organizations are embarking on,” said Jagjit Daliwal, vice president and global leader of the CIO industry at UiPath. “CIOs, which transformed the organization during the pandemic by allowing remote opportunities for business continuity, have positioned themselves very well as business and strategic leaders. This trend will continue until 2022 and beyond, as there is still pressure for more digital solutions.
Intelligent automation solutions can help transform a company’s operational processes, such as automating infrastructure, integrating service management with other systems, and ensuring security compliance to create touch-free service management capabilities. To help transform the customer and employee experience, automation can provide self-service capabilities to customers and employees and allow a 360-degree view of the customer’s journey to provide key data insights. On the development side, automation can transform a company’s business model by shortening the software development lifecycle, integrating with home systems, and creating new value propositions through artificial intelligence and machine learning.
A great example of this can be seen in how UiPath and its tools can help speed up the software development lifecycle. During the delivery phase of a software project there is great potential for automation, including:
- Preparation (process detection, data preparation and software preparation tools)
- Development (ability to create and modify objects, pre-built accelerators and integration with mapping tools)
- Data migration (data extraction, transformation and loading processes, as well as data mapping and validation)
- Testing (including test management, regression testing and integration testing)
- Manufacturing (automation tools that support DevOps deployment, scalability, and reporting)
In addition, the use of intelligent automation through machine learning (ML) models can further improve the power of automation while accelerating digital transformation. In many unstructured environments and unpredictable uses, ML models, such as language analysis, document comprehension, and mood analysis, can improve efficiency and better understand customer and employee intentions.
