It’s been a big month or more for corn on the cob. An adorable corn-loving toddler has caught the internet’s attention, and so has his snack of choice.

If you’ve noticed anything related to the corn craze, here’s a little background on where it came from. The “Corn Kid” meme features a kid named Tariq whose enthusiastic, short and sweet interview about corn (and pretty much anything else) is worth seeing if you haven’t already.

Why is everyone talking (and singing) about corn?

Corn-related content first came to my attention in late August when I was scrolling through my About You page on TikTok and noticed several videos using the same soundtrack — catchy song posted by a TikTok account @schmoyoho.

The song is taken from an interview on Recess Therapy — a web series that asks kids questions. in this interviewwhich debuted earlier in August, host Julian Shapiro-Barnum holds a microphone near a young man named Tariq who speaks so passionately about corn.

“I can’t imagine anything more beautiful,” says Tariq.

Tariq is toothless and wears a shirt decorated with drawings of double-decker buses. He clutches a half-eaten ear of corn and takes a bite or two during the interview.

Shapiro-Barnum asks him to describe the corn. “A big lump of buttons,” he says. Tariq suggests that corn costs $1 and wishes viewers a “wonderful” day.

At the time of writing, @schmoyoho’s version of the song has more than 8 million likes. In videos using the tune — of which there are more than 400,000 — people rank the texts, I’m stuck and is feathered Corn Kid tribute art. Even actor and musician Kevin Bacon got in on the trend, posting an acoustic version of the Corn Kid song that’s pretty good to listen to.

The corn child is on Cameo, where you can request a video for $220. He was in Chipotle advertisement. It is sometimes referred to as the CEO of Corn.

Who is the corn child?

Although Tariq has talked endlessly about the corn, we don’t know much about the kid behind the meme. According to The Atlantic, he has not given television appearances or interviews.

When he’s not dropping quote-worthy parts about the corn, he likes to play games like tag and hide-and-seek.

“I play different games,” Tariq tells Recess Therapy, “never a lava monster.”

How can I watch the original Corn Kid interview?

If you’ve heard the corn song and want to watch Tariq’s interview from early August, it’s on Recess Therapy YouTube channel.

A follow-up post provides even more Tariq content.

Corn is back on the menu.
