connected to a low noise digital signal.

Cliff Electronicsleaders in the design, development and production of connectors and test equipment have increased their range of optical connectors, cables and accessories suitable for many applications of high quality audio and broadcasting systems, AV installations, automation, tools, data and IT connection, medical equipment, instruments, industrial control, data collection and other high frequency signaling connections.

Optical connectivity is virtually unaffected by electrical noise when transmitting and receiving digital signals and is fast becoming a standard feature of HDTVs, high-quality audio equipment, including portable products and IT systems.

Cliff Electronics optical jacks are available as single or double versions of an optical transmitter / receiver with PCB mounting at right angles and a self-tapping screw hole for panel mounting. All comply with the EIAJ / JEITA CP-1210, RC-5720 and JIS C5974-1993 F05 rectangular standards for digital audio interfaces, including optical connections. Standard and low-profile versions are available, and three models replace the plug cover with a convenient hinged cover to protect against contamination.

The electrical specification of Cliff’s optical jacks is; supply voltage -0.5 to 7.0V maximum, input voltage -0.5 to + 0.5V maximum, operating temperature -20 to + 70ºC and soldering temperature 260ºC maximum.

Optical connectors are also available in Cliff’s leading market Transition connector series. SC Simplex, LC Duplex, TOSLINK EIAJ, and now also the increasingly refined brand MTP MPO type optical connections are available in plastic or sturdy metal housings. Designed to fit in the standard 24 mm diameter of the XLR connector panel, this simplifies the design and production of the panel and improves the aesthetics of the final product. Fiber-optic FeedThrough connectors can also be supplied pre-assembled in 19 ”rack panels to simplify and speed up system assembly.

To accompany their range of optical connectors, Cliff also manufactures molded fiber optic cables (TOSLINK cables) for use with optical jacks. TOSLINK (Toshiba Link) optical data cables comply with standard, optical, optical, digital, audio interfaces and are available in lengths of 1.5 and 2.5 meters. The pins meet the standards for rectangular EIAJ / JEITA CP-1201, RC-5720 and JIS C5974-1993 F05 for digital audio interfaces, including optical fiber-optic connections.

Completing the Cliff Fiber-Optic product range is an adapter providing a 3.5 mm jack connection from a TOSLINK cable end.

John Hall, managing director of Cliff Electronics, commented; “Optical connectors are virtually unaffected by noise when transmitting and receiving signals and are accepted as standard in many applications, including professional audio and visual mixing desks and high-end consumer audio applications and telecommunications and data centers. Our wide range of options for adapters and jacks allows us to provide the most suitable solutions for OEMs and system integrators.
