IoT ecosystems and connected devices enable the purchase and unlocking of new service offerings and edge services. However, prototyping sensor-based IoT use cases can become a resource-intensive process until intelligent IoT systems are ready for deployment. To support hardware and software engineers in the development of IoT devices, Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) launched the XENSIV™ Connected Sensor Kit (CSK), a new IoT sensor platform for rapid prototyping and development of customized IoT solutions .

“Combining sensors, microcontrollers and secure connectivity is one of the biggest challenges for our customers. That’s why we developed CSK for rapid prototyping of connected IoT sensors,” said Laurent Remont, Vice President Sensor Solutions at Infineon. “Furthermore, CSK combines software and hardware to help significantly reduce time to market for IoT products.”

CSK is based on a combination of XENSIV sensors with energy-efficient yet high-performance processing for advanced use cases based on the PSoC™ 6 microcontroller. Secure connectivity is enabled by OPTIGA™ Trust M. The board’s modular design is compatible with the Adafruit form factor and allows prototyping various sensor use cases, for example battery-powered smart home applications. The sensor kit uses Infineon products and offers ready-to-use sensing scenarios and quick visualization of data collected in a 10-minute IoT experience.

In addition, rapid prototyping is facilitated by the Infineon Sensor Cloud Dashboard: an example of a simplified user interface with an AWS cloud architecture backend. It scales quickly for field deployment and provides unified dashboard management across multiple devices. All CSK components come with sample code and libraries from ModusToolbox™, Infineon’s software ecosystem that supports customers in developing feature-specific proof-of-concepts and accelerates the path to finished product design with new sensor applications.

CSK also provides secure and reliable connectivity to the most popular cloud services such as AWS IoT Core. It can be used to publish, configure and subscribe messages to and from cloud platforms. The kit is qualified in the AWS Partner Device Catalog with environmental sensor variants, the CSK PASC02 for measuring carbon dioxide levels (CO 2 ppm) and a radar 60 GHz variant, the CSK BGT60TR13C, for presence detection, vital monitoring and more .
