The John Lewis partnership is looking for technological talent to play more than 150 roles as part of an ongoing digital boost.

The retail group aims to hire software engineers and deliver the delivery to the John Lewis and Waitrose websites, as well as further develop customer-focused applications for each of the brands.

Prior to the pandemic, the John Lewis Partnership was working for better digital acceptance, using its annual JLab launch program to discover new technologies that could help address current challenges in the retail sector – a cohort of ” survived 2019 businesses to develop immersive or personalized shopping experiences.

In 2019, the retailer announced that it will expand the use of Google Cloud to include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data analysis tools to expand its digital realm and better serve its increasingly digital customers. For software engineering roles, candidates will use Kotlin or Java at the back end and React and Next.js at the front end to develop a website. Meanwhile, native application engineers will develop on iOS and Android. The new data engineers will work with the Google Cloud platform, and cloud engineers will use Google Cloud and AWS-based platforms.

The partnership also said that those who join the retailer will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing training and development.

The John Lewis Partnership is not the only retailer looking to hire more technicians in the last few years – by the end of 2020, Tesco had hired 16,000 employees to tackle Covid-19’s shopping habits; Amazon has announced plans to create 10,000 new jobs in the UK in its online retail and cloud divisions in 2021; and this year Ikea announced plans to hire more than 150 technology and data workers across Europe in 2022.
