The settlement agreement says LinkedIn claims that its statistical models do not identify pay gaps. The government said its own analysis found significant pay gaps even after monitoring for “legitimate explanatory factors”.

The agency said the case was prompted by a routine assessment by its Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. Federal laws prohibit discriminatory practices in companies that enter into contracts with the federal government.

Last year, Google faced a similar complaint about pay inequality when California’s civil rights regulator investigated the company’s treatment of black workers following alleged incidents of harassment and discrimination, according to two people familiar with the matter and emails from the agency seen by Reuters. .

Lawyers and analysts from the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) have repeatedly interviewed several black women who worked for the Alphabet-owned company for their experience there, according to documents and sources.

Google says it is focused on “building sustainable capital” for its black workers, and that 2020 is the biggest year to hire what it calls “black +” workers, a name that includes people of many races. .
