Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received the version 1.002.000 update, which finally brings the much-sought-after New Game+ mode, new costumes for both heroes, and a host of new quality-of-life features. The latest patch also adds the ability to replay missions, change the time of day in the game, and some handy accessibility options. However, the Spider-Man 2 update also brought an unwanted bug. Developer Insomniac Games confirmed that the patch could grant players access to a game development menu that could ultimately affect save files and trophy progression.
Insomniac details the new features in version 1.002.000 notes to the edition on Thursday, confirming that the update is live for PS5 users. The highlight, of course, is the New Game+ mode, which allows players who have completed the game to dive back into the story with all their skills and gear upgrades intact.
Spider-Man 2’s NG+ will come with Ultimate Levels, which will allow players to go beyond the base game’s level cap in the mode. New Game+ will also unlock new symbiote suit styles with Ultimate Level progression in the story, new gold skins for gadgets, a shared Suit Tech slot for the two Spider-Men, and for the trophy hunters out there — a new PlayStation trophy for completing a game in NG+ mode.
Players can also now replay a specific story mission and change the time of day in the game. This can be done by going to “Time of Day” in the Gameplay section of the Settings menu. Additionally, players can also swap the colors of the symbiote tentacles to their liking.
The update also brings new Spider-Man costumes, including two new costumes inspired by the Hellfire Gala designs for Peter and Miles. The two characters will also receive two new costumes as part of the Fly N’ Fresh Costume Pack — these will be paid costumes available for $4.99, with proceeds going to Gameheads, a gaming industry training program for low-income youth in the US .
Other new features include photo mode settings, audio descriptions for in-game cinematics, a screen reader for menu text, control tutorials and hints, and more. You can check out the full list of features in Insomniac’s release notes.
Insomniac Games too confirmed in a post on X Thursday that the update could allow some players to access the developer menu, which could cause save file and trophy progress to crash. “We are aware that the latest game update may have inadvertently allowed access to the game’s development menu. A hotfix is forthcoming,” the studio said.
However, some players seem to have dived into the developer options and it is reported found references to missions not present in the game, which may hint at upcoming DLC. Although Insomniac has yet to confirm a story-based expansion for the game, Spider-Man 2 includes several open-ended plot threads that can be explored later in DLC. 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man also received a story expansion, The City That Never Sleeps.
Players can now download the latest update 1.002.000 on PS5. Insomniac noted that there is a second update immediately following the first, and players will need to download both to access all the new features.
