Jain said the company is seeing an increase in demand for India. In addition to mobile phones, he will focus on technologies for the Internet of Things segment and smart homes

Mediatek India Managing Director Anku Jain said the company does not have its own semiconductor plant and would like to work with chipmakers and other suppliers who have offered to set up their facilities in India.

Chipmaker Mediatek expects chipset shipments to decline by the end of this year as semiconductor production capacity builds around the world.

In an interview with PTI, Mediatek India Managing Director Anku Jain said the company does not have its own semiconductor factory and would like to work with chipmakers and other suppliers who have offered to set up their facilities in India.

“There has no doubt been a problem with chipset shortages over the last one to two years. The reason was, you know, the demand was so high during the pandemic that no one expected a second break in supply chains, “said Jane as she spoke on the sidelines of the 5G India Leadership Summit 2022.

He said MediaTek has very good relationships with OEMs, as well as other foundry partners who have helped the company deal with the situation.

“Personally, I think the situation needs to improve by the end of this year, because capacity is being built as we talk around the world,” Jane said.

Jain said the company is seeing an increase in demand for India. In addition to mobile phones, he will focus on technologies for the Internet of Things segment and smart homes.

According to him, the government’s 76,000 kroner-Semicon India program looks ambitious and the government has a strong intention to make it a success.

“At MediaTek, we design chips and then someone makes for us, like TSMC. So, if a company in India is able to offer great production facilities, that’s good news for me, because we can deliver it on site and do things here. If the whole ecosystem comes to India, I think that’s great news for companies like us, “said Jane.

According to Counterpoint Research, Mediatek is the best provider of chipsets for mobile phones since the July-September 2020 quarter. The company claims leadership in the segment of smart TVs with 65% global market share and in broadband retail devices with 40% market share.
