Softbank-backed e-commerce firm Meesho on Saturday said it registered around 80 percent jump in business with nearly 87.6 lakh orders on Friday, the first day of its five-day festive sale.
Tier 2, 3 and 4 cities accounted for about 85 percent of orders on the first day, the company said in a statement.
“Meesho recorded a record of around 87.6 lakh orders on the first day of its flagship festive sale event — Meesho’s Mega Blockbuster Sale. This is the highest number of orders recorded by the company in a single day – up about 80 percent from the first day of the previous year’s sale,” the statement said.
The company said it has received orders from as far afield as Jamnagar, Alappuzha, Chindwara, Davengere, Hassan, Gopalganj, Guwahati, Sivan, Thanjavur and Ambikapur.
“With a wide assortment of around 6.5 crore active product listings at rock-bottom prices, the sale exemplifies Meesho’s mission to democratize e-commerce for all,” it said.
Fashion, beauty and personal care, home and kitchen and electronic accessories were the top-selling categories on the first day as consumers bought everything from sarees to analog watches, jewelery sets, mobile cases and covers, Bluetooth headsets, choppers and peelers in record numbers. volume numbers to fulfill their holiday shopping aspirations, the company said.
“With about 85 percent of orders and approximately 75 percent of sellers coming from Tier 2 and non-urban areas, we are humbled to have created a far-reaching impact in the deepest corners of the country.
