Sunday is Mother’s Day in the United States, the day we thank Mom for everything she does for us.

To honor this special person in our lives, Google has a gift for all mothers in our lives – a card placed in an animated scribble. The slideshow focuses on the nourishing hands of this special person as she guides us through our early days, teaches us valuable skills and helps us grow, all through the warmth and protection of her ever-present hands.

Mother’s Day as we know it today was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial to her mother, Anne, a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Civil War. Through Anna Jarvis’ efforts to officially make the day a holiday, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation six years later declaring the second Sunday in May a national holiday in honor of mothers.

Happy Mother’s Day and thank you for everything you do, Mom.
