The New York Attorney General is investigating the role that social media sites such as 4chan and Discord may have played. the shooting on May 14 at a Buffalo grocery store that killed 10 people and injured three others.

Attorney General Leticia James said Wednesday that her office will review online resources “accused shooter Peyton Hendron is” using to discuss and expand his intentions and actions to carry out the attack.

“The fact that a person can publish detailed plans to commit such an act of hatred without consequences and then stream it for the world to see is chilling and incomprehensible,” James said. said in a statement special naming of Discord, 4chan, 8chan and Twitch.

Amazon, which owns Twitch, and Discord did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

Police report that Hendron widely promoted racist propaganda online before the shooting and was discussing plans to terrorize a primary school, church or other place that he believed would have a significant number of black people.

James told NPR on Tuesday that the shooting at Jefferson Avenue’s Tops Friendly Markets was a case of domestic terrorism fueled by “a racist theory spread by social media as well as cable news and some elected officials.”

Gendron broadcasts the attack live in Twitch and publishes an online 180-page putty that describes in detail the so-called great replacement theorywho erroneously claims that white Christians have been “replaced” in the United States by people of color, Jews, Muslims, and other minorities.

In an earlier statement, a Twitch spokesman said the site “has a zero-tolerance policy against violence of all kinds and is working quickly to respond to all incidents.”

Some civil rights defenders called on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to ban publications that promote the great theory of substitution, just as they do Holocaust denial.
