QUEENS (WPIX) – A man in New York is accused hides human remains in the basement of a home he shares with his father, police said Tuesday.

Josh Legender, 38, has been charged with concealing a human corpse and falsifying physical evidence, according to New York City police.

Officers were called to the scene of the ominous discovery on Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, police said the suspect’s father had informed them that he had cleaned the basement when he found a “plastic bag” he said contained human remains. A doctor arrived and “determined that the remains were in fact human,” New York City police said.

The identity of the deceased has not been made public.

The suspect’s father told New York Daily News on Sunday that he was the one who called 911 after opening the plastic bag and finding “maybe bones” inside.

“It’s Father’s Day,” he said at the exit. I’m just trying to see if I can turn around.

The NYPD continues to investigate. The forensic service is working to determine the cause of death.
