The Nothing Phone 1 launches with the Android 12-based Nothing OS and is the first smartphone model from the UK-based company. The phone was launched in July 2022 and has received several software upgrades since then. Phone 1 users are now getting the Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5.5 update, which was also recently rolled out to Nothing Phone 2 users globally. Along with several new features, bug fixes and performance improvements, the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Nothing Phone 1 also brings ChatGPT integration.

The stable version of Nothing OS 2.5.5 is gradually rolling out to Nothing Phone 1 users, the company announced in a community post. Users can manually check for an update on their phone by navigating to Settings > System > System update > Download > Install. If the update hasn’t appeared yet, it should arrive in the next few days.

With the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update, Nothing Phone 1 users get a new gesture option in the Nothing X app that allows them to start a voice conversation with ChatGPT. This works through the recently released Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A true wireless headphones, for now. Users will need the latest version of ChatGPT from the Play Store on their phones for this to work. The company assured that the ChatGPT integration feature will soon appear in other Nothing audio products.

Nothing Phone 1 users also get a new ChatGPT widget that allows quick and easy access to ChatGPT from the home screen. The update also adds a button in the screenshot and clipboard popup that allows users to paste content directly into a new ChatGPT conversation.

The Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Phone 1 adds an option to apply the Nothing Icon Pack to the home screen only. This is said to improve the accessibility of the App Drawer. The update also allows users to scroll through pages on the home screen while holding app icons to reorganize the phone.

The Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Phone 1 also adds a customization option to enable or disable the slide-down quick settings page on users’ lock screen. Users can customize this via Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Quick settings. This update also allows access to new custom status bar icon options via the Settings > Display > Status bar. The update also introduced a RAM boost feature that can be set by Settings > System > RAM booster.

The company claims that the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for the Phone 1 update uses an AI-powered algorithm for “smarter auto-brightness lighting settings.” It also offers rearranged tiles for quick settings for better accessibility. This update also introduces new animations for Quick Settings widgets, improves response speed when switching Bluetooth in Quick Settings, and optimizes experience with volume settings.

Additionally, the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update fixes issues related to automatically disconnecting from Wi-Fi, displaying and editing the screen frame, and “lack of vibration feedback when swiping to the side to return to the screen.” The update is also said to have fixed an issue where the earpiece volume was not syncing with the phone volume and an issue where the audio was not switching to a connected watch during calls while also connected to an earpiece.
