Nothing, a London-based tech startup that previously gained attention with its innovative TWS earphones, the Nothing Ear (1), has officially announced its first smartphone in the Malaysian market under the name Nothing Phone (1), which has been generating a lot of buzz on social media over recent weeks.
Like the Nothing Ear (1), the most notable feature of the new Nothing Phone (1) is its imaginative and unusual design, which sets it apart from other mobile phones on the market and gives it a distinctive identity that makes it stand out. In addition, the hardware itself emphasizes environmental friendliness, as it includes a recycled aluminum frame that increases the durability of the device while reducing its weight.

The phone’s full-sized 6.55-inch OLED display has a sharp-looking FHD+ screen resolution and a fast 120Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling and animation look smoother than before. The front display’s ability to reach 1200 nits of peak brightness further sweetens the deal, ensuring that the screen will remain visible even when the phone is used in environments with intense ambient light.
On the imaging front, the Nothing Phone (1) has a dual-camera system with a 50-megapixel (f/1.88 aperture) Sony IMX766 image sensor as the primary camera and a 50-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) Samsung sensor JN1, which acts as an ultra-wide device with a 114-degree field of view. A 16-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies and making video calls would complement this.
The Snapdragon 778G+ chipset with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage that doesn’t accept a microSD card for memory expansion is what powers the phone. Supports 5G technology. Out of the box, it will run on a custom Nothing OS (1) built on the latest version of Android 12
A 4500mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging and can reach 100% capacity in about 70 minutes keeps the lights on. Even if you can buy an official 45W charging adapter just in case, the phone won’t come with a charger bundled with it
The Nothing Phone (1) is priced at RM2,399 ($539) for the base 8GB+256GB model and RM2,699 ($606) for the top-of-the-line 12GB+256GB variant.
