Real estate is responsible for 30 percent of CO2 emissions in Germany and currently causes about 115 million tons of CO2. According to the German Federal Environment Agency, they must be reduced to 72 million tons of CO2 by 2030. To achieve this, the rate of renovation of existing buildings will have to increase from the current one percent to two percent. Rising energy prices and legal requirements for sustainable real estate management are increasing the pressure on the real estate industry.

To combat this, German proptech was launched Predium raised 1.6m euros in funding for sustainable real estate management. The preliminary round was led by btov Partners and 2bX. Other investors include angel investors such as Maximilian Wissman (Viessmann Group), Christopher Fichtner (Thermondo and ecoworks) and Michael Wax (to).

Founded in 2021, the Munich-based platform makes it easy for project developers, property managers and housing companies, in particular, to define ESG real estate targets, choose measures and value investment financially, in practice at the touch of a button. It determines the balances of the ESG, proposes measures to reduce CO2 and supports them by calculating investments. Previously, these complex steps of the process had to be performed individually in a time-consuming way.

Jens Tum, founder and CEO of Predium Technology, said: “Often the current CO2 balance in buildings is lacking. In addition, companies cannot renovate all buildings in the short term. The question arises as to which measures should be implemented at what time and what costs and savings lead to this over time. The answer to this is currently an expensive and cumbersome combination of Excel and consulting projects.

“Companies in the real estate industry will need to manage their assets more proactively in a sustainable way in the future. Only those companies that achieve ambitious sustainability goals in a cost-effective and reasonable way will be able to survive in the market. This is where Predium comes with its overall solution, “he added Jochen Gutbrodpartner in btov Partners.
