Sony is actively involved in the smartphone market, offering three series: Xperia 1, 10 and 5. Sony renews the series with new models every year. Also, Sony smartphones have a distinctive design and feel that sets them apart. Not to forget, the different aspect ratio from the rest of the device, camera shutter button and much more. Now it seems that Sony is preparing for the next models in the series.
Before we get to the latest news, let’s recap what happened this past week. A rumor was circulating on the internet that Sony was saying goodbye to the Xperia 5 series. This news caused concern among fans of the line-up. Although there was no official confirmation, fans were confused whether to believe this news or not. Finally, recent news suggests that this rumor might be unfounded and Sony might launch the Xperia 5 VI.
A protective cover for the Xperia 5 VI appears
Gizchina News of the week
Pictures of protective cases for unreleased Sony Xperia devices were posted by a user of Weibo. One of those devices appears to be the Xperia 5 VI. The protective coating reveals that Sony will stick with two camera sensors, just like the previous model. A significant change, however, is the absence of a cut-out for the camera’s shutter button. Perhaps Sony is saying goodbye to the shutter button on the camera with this model. Also, the screen aspect ratio appears to have changed from the iconic 21:9 to 19.5:9.
Sony Xperia 1 VI
Not only the Xperia 5 VI has revealed its protective cover. There’s also the Xperia 1 VI. There appear to be no design differences apart from the aspect ratio being changed to wider. The decision to use a traditional aspect ratio may be to gain acceptance by a wider range of customers. Since only Sony worked with a 21:9 aspect ratio, their phones looked different from everyone else on the market.
However, a protective cover appearing online is a hint that Sony may not be discontinuing its Xperia 5 range and may actually launch new models soon.
