The German Bundeswehr has Make an order with Rheinmetall for the provision of advanced training equipment and augmented reality (AR) systems.

The opportunities are for training the personnel for maintenance and repair of the transport aircraft A400M of the German Air Force in a very realistic environment.

The new award comes after Rheinmetall won the tender of the German Federal Agency for Information Technology and Equipment Maintenance of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) in December 2021, worth approximately double-digit million euros.

Under the contract, the company will equip several high-quality training platforms and AR systems at the Technical Training Center of the Northern Department of the German Air Force at Wunstorf (AB) Air Base in Germany.

Rheinmetall’s training facilities are detailed models of the various parts of the original A400M military transport aircraft.

In addition, the copies will save the German Air Force’s A400M fleet from potential damage during training operations, while maintaining their availability and readiness.

The concept of combining training equipment with the AR system provides an integrated approach to overall training, covering a variety of maintenance procedures and activities in and around the aircraft.

Activities that cannot be practiced on training facilities can be easily depicted by AR systems, providing better understanding in all learning situations.

According to Rheinmetall, the instructions conducted with the training facilities are in line with European requirements for airworthiness (DEMAR).

The company also has a contract for the supply of additional cargo hold simulators for A400M aircraft for the Bundeswehr.
