Rohde & Schwarz Australia has announced the successful completion of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Air Ground Air Transition (AGAT) project.

The company works as a communications systems integrator (CSI) for the AGAT project, of which it is the main contractor BAE Systems.

Rohde & Schwarz completed its project-related activities in 16 months.

It includes the supply of BAE Systems backup voice communication system and monitoring subsystems.

The scope of work also required Rohde & Schwarz to perform several reviews, including initial requirements, Human Machine Interface (HMI) system, safety, security working groups and design reviews.

After the reviews and inspections were completed, the company conducted an acceptance test and other evaluation activities.

In addition, the company also provided a range of services such as security strengthening, system integration, project management, system design and development, HMI customization, inspection and validation, and integrated logistics support.

Rohde & Schwarz Australia managing director Gareth Evans said: “This work involved the provision of over 300 CERTIUM radios and ancillaries, CERTIUM VCS as a backup voice communication system and CERTIUM control systems for 12 defense airfields across Australia.”

“To team up and design, deliver and integrate these systems to achieve factory acceptance test milestones in less than five months and subsequently deliver systems to 12 sites over the next 11 months – four of which were subject to the freeze of Covid-19 – is a truly admirable feat and I am extremely proud of their efforts.”

The contract for the AGAT project was signed between BAE Systems and Rohde & Schwarz in 2020.

This work is part of the AIR5431 Phase 3 program which involves replacing the old Australian military air traffic control system with a new harmonized system at 12 different locations.
