Rumor: PlayStation’s Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology will bring 4K 120FPS

The PlayStation 5 was first released in November 2020. Last year, Sony released a model with an improved design, which is called the PlayStation 5 Slim. However, the slim model does not have any hardware improvements. Therefore, fans are curious if the tech giant will release an updated console. Since the last generation got a Pro model (PS4 Pro), there’s a good chance we’ll see a PlayStation 5 Pro as well. The PS5 Pro hype is high right now as many rumors are circulating online. The latter has attracted a lot of interest with the new technology called Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on the PlayStation.

According to the latest report of InsiderGaming, the unannounced PlayStation 5 Pro will use Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This is brand new technology and may be the best highlight of the console. PSSR technology will be used to upgrade to higher resolutions.

PSSR can be a game changer

According to the report, the current PSSR supports a resolution of 3840×2160 and aims for 4K 60 FPS and 8K 30 FPS. However, the juicy news is that Sony is internally looking to push the PSSR technology to achieve even higher resolutions.

The goal with PSSR is to achieve 4K 120FPS and 8K 60FPS. However, achieving this may be challenging on the PS5 Pro due to hardware limitations. Still, the important news is that the company plans to achieve those high resolutions. These ambitious goals suggest that achieving 4K 120FPS and 8K 60FPS could be feasible in future consoles, possibly the PlayStation 6.
