“One of the most common and cost-effective options for reducing the effects of high power is wide termination,” according to the company. “By reversing the geometry of the chip resistor and applying the endpoints to the long sides of the part, the hot spot temperature of a given chip size is reduced by 30% to 40%.”

Implemented in the RMCW-HP thick film range, the rated powers vary: 1.5 W for size 0612, 2 W for size 1020, 2 W for size 1018 and 3 W for parts size 1225.

Other resistors in the RMCW family have long edge edges but are not as high power. The part numbers of the “RMCW1218-HP” format are the ones to look out for.

The maximum operating voltage is 200V (or √PR), the maximum overload is 400V.

Stability is ± 100ppm / ° C and parts up to 10MΩ are available in 1% or 5% form (E96 1% parts are special order).
