The spotlight is certainly aimed at the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Qualcomm’s new flagship support comes with a huge boost in energy efficiency and promises to solve heating problems. However, this was not the only product revealed from Qualcomm today. As promised, the US-based chip maker also introduced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. It is a replacement for the Snapdragon 778G. It also arrives as the first chipset in the range with the new nomenclature. SD 7 Gen 1 also carries a 4 nm manufacturing process and this is the first non-flagship SoC for 2022 to be produced in this process.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 carries a maximum clock speed of 2.4 GHz and receives graphics tasks powered by the Adreno 662 GPU. Qualcomm claims that the new chip handles graphics 20 percent faster than its predecessor. AI tasks, given that you care about that, are 30 percent better for the CPU. The company also offers Adreno Frame Motion Engine. It doubles the frame rate in games and saves power consumption like the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The new 4 nm platform also brings a few new things to the SD 7 Series. The list of new extras includes Qualcomm’s AI Engine, image capture up to 200 MP and Android Ready SE for an electronic money solution.

Support for Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 for 200 MP images

Speaking of support for 200 MP images, Qualcomm seems to be paving the way for the rise of 200 MP smartphones. We expect the first smartphones with 200 MP cameras to appear in the second half of 2022. We assume that there will be many premium mid-range smartphones with 200 MP cameras. Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP offers support for capturing photos up to 200 MP and 4K HDR video recording. There is also 10-bit HEIC photo capture and HEVC video recording. Another first comes in Android SE and Trusted Management Engine. It promises optimal security for digital keys and wallets.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 carries the Snapdragon X62 5G modem, which can handle 4.4 Gbps download speeds with dual 5G connectivity in standby mode. There’s also Wi-Fi 6E along with the new Bluetooth 5.3 standard. There is support for Snapdragon Sound and support for aptX. The first batch of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phones will arrive in a few weeks from a wide range of smartphone manufacturers. However, Oppo can ruin things with its Oppo Reno 8 series.

Oppo will present the Oppo Reno 8 series on May 23, and one of the phones will bring Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. According to reports, this is the Oppo Reno 8 Pro. We hope to see more smartphones coming with this platform later. Some rumors suggest that the performance of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is not comparable to the leading ones. We are curious to see how the SoC will perform in real life.
