A few years ago I tested the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones (also known as Mark 4) and gave them an almost perfect result. Sony is based on this exclusive product with a refreshed design and improved audio technology. The Sony WH-1000XM5 (Mark 5) was announced today and is available for pre-order now for $ 399.99. The new headphones will be released next week on May 20, in black and silver.

Sony’s audio technology offers advanced noise reduction with two processors controlling eight microphones. Sony’s 30mm driver and proprietary processors help you focus on work and isolate yourself from the world around you.

In addition to an exceptional audio playback experience, Sony also provides its Voice Pickup technology, which uses four AI-based beamforming and noise reduction microphones to offer a high-quality calling experience.

Given that ANC and voice call support is the focus of the headphones, they should also be extremely comfortable to wear for extended periods. WH-1000XM5 includes a new design with vegan leather, which is reportedly very comfortable and light. The reduced weight of the headphones is important for wearing headphones throughout the day.

The Mark 5 headphones no longer fold into a compact size for travel, but they fold almost flat. Sony is providing a new travel carrying case, but keep in mind that the case and headphones are larger than the Mark 4, so if size is an issue, then you may want to get a cheaper pair of Mark 4 headphones.

All the technology we’ve seen with the latest Sony headphones, including Speak-to-Chat, Voice Assistant, Adaptive Sound Control, Sony Headphones Connect and more, is provided for a seamless audio experience. Google’s Fast Pair feature is present along with Microsoft Swift Pair. Thirty hours of battery life is possible, while just three minutes of charging will support up to three hours of listening.
