The OnePlus 10T bending disaster is getting the company’s attention

Smartphones have gotten thinner in recent years, and sometimes to achieve some designs, sacrifices are made for durability. The emergence of “bendable smartphones” had some popular names like the Huawei Nexus 6P. The latest addition to the bend bandwagon was the OnePlus 10T. During your usual endurance tests, YouTuber Zach of JerryRigEverything, the OnePlus 10T failed the bending stage. The device did not do well. Just like its OnePlus 10 Pro sibling, the device bent and broke when pressure was applied. As usual, some customers became enthusiasts too disturbed with the durability of the OnePlus 10 T. After the initial hype, OnePlus decided to comment on the situation.

According to the company, “OnePlus 10T meets or exceeds all OnePlus procedures” for extensive durability tests. This includes a pressure test where the device is suspended with a weight applied to the center front and back. OnePlus 10T has improved structure engineering design. It can withstand over 45kg of external force in this OnePlus lab test. The company further states, “When we design, engineer and manufacture a OnePlus device, we ensure that they not only offer a design that is beautiful and unburdening. We also make sure it is durable so they can withstand everyday use”.

It’s worth noting that JerryRigEverything’s tests tend to be extreme. Therefore, some of these tests do not reflect something that might happen in normal use. However, they still state that the design is not as durable as OnePlus says. Of course, no one forces a more expensive flagship to bend, but accidents can happen. Hopefully, OnePlus will make its future flagships more durable and resistant to bending and cracking.
