Microsoft is updating the social features of the Xbox app, and gamers can now share their highlights in a feed of Instagram-like stories.

Xbox fans will be able to create, share and view stories in the app through the new activity show of the app for iPhone and Android, which will be released soon for all users.

The Stories show will see recordings from your friends, as well as game accounts that you like. Your own stories will join them, and friends will be able to post reactions and answers. However, unlike Instagram, the Stories channel will show posts from the last 72 hours and disappears after 24 hours. Australians are getting their first experience with this feature, but it will be distributed to other regions of the Xbox in the next few months.

Adding stories will be easy enough, although you’ll need to save the screenshot or gameplay to your actual console first, of course. However, it will also be possible to share your achievements in the Stories section.

In one Xbox Wire A blog post announcing the feature, which Microsoft explains: “The Story Channel is right on the home screen of the Xbox app.

“To create a story, click the + button on your gaming tag located in the story channel, and then select the video, screenshot, or achievement you want to publish from the gallery. Once you’ve selected, you’ll go to the history preview page, where you can choose to add a caption to your post, and then click the post button at the bottom right. The Story Channel shows content from the last 72 hours, and everything you share is also posted to your account activity feed.

It is not yet clear when the UK will receive the update, but we will keep you posted.
