Threads is testing a new feature that will allow users to automatically archive posts after a certain amount of time. The new feature was confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who also heads the X-style platform (formerly known as Twitter). He emphasized that users will have the choice to either automatically archive posts or manually hide them from their profile. In addition, the company also plans to allow users to reverse the effect and move posts back to their timeline.

According to Threads post by Mosseri, the company is testing the option to allow users to archive posts. The feature is currently only available to a small number of users and is likely still under development. While the Instagram executive didn’t reveal any timeline for the feature’s rollout, it could roll out in the next two weeks, which usually takes time after an official announcement.

Mosseri also shared some screenshots detailing the feature. Based on the images, the feature can be accessed by tapping the three-dot menu next to any post made by the user. Tapping on it will show Backup now option. There is also an option to automatically archive all posts after a certain period of time, but users will have to enable it separately. It is currently unclear if users will be able to choose the period after which posts are archived or if they will only be able to choose from the options given by the platform.

In case a user wants a post back, they will be able to unarchive a post and make it public again. Mosseri stressed that he conducted a survey some time ago and based on the feedback, the feature will not be turned on by default and will only be enabled when users themselves enable it. It should be noted that this feature is similar to the backup feature on Instagram.

Thread developers have been busy testing and releasing new features lately. According to a report, the platform is also testing a feature to display search results in real time. Some users have shared screenshots where two different options — Top and Recent — can be seen when searching for a topic.
