Airtel has announced new plans for its prepaid and postpaid users to allow them to stay connected when traveling by flight. The package will offer high-speed data, limited minutes of free calls and a limited number of free SMS services, the telecom service provider said. For those who don’t want to top up separately, the service is also bundled with specific international roaming plans. Notably, Reliance Jio also offers similar packages for people traveling abroad on long-haul flights.
In-flight roaming plans from Airtel start at Rs. 195 for postpaid and prepaid customers. All offers are valid for 24 hours. Both prepaid and postpaid users will get 250MB data, 100 minutes of outgoing calls and 100 outgoing SMS with Rs. 195 plan. An upgrade to this is available at Rs. 295 which offers 500 MB data along with 100 minutes of free talk and 100 outgoing SMS. The most expensive plan is priced at Rs. 595 which provides 1GB data and the same benefits on calls and SMS. There is no difference in price or benefits between prepaid and subscription plans.
In case users don’t want to buy a separate recharge pack, Airtel also includes the same benefits with its international roaming plans. Those who buy Rs. 2997 and above prepaid plans will automatically get 250 MB data, 100 minutes of free outgoing calls and 100 SMS. Similarly, postpaid users who are subscribed to international roaming packs of Rs. 3999 and above will get the same benefits as prepaid customers.
Announcing the offerings, Airtel revealed that it has tied up with Aeromobile, the UK-based in-flight telecom service provider, to enable connectivity for its users. The company claims that the service will be provided by 19 airlines flying on different international sectors. Although the telecom service provider did not specify which airlines will be included, it will likely be available on airlines served by Aeromobile.
Additionally, Airtel also has multiple channels to contact the company’s support team while on board a flight. Users can contact his dedicated WhatsApp number through calls or text messages. Inquiries and complaints are handled by the contact center 24/7. To monitor data usage, buy additional minutes or get real-time payment details, users can also log into the Airtel Thanks app.
