Apple is rumored to be working on several foldable devices, such as a clamshell foldable iPhone, a foldable iPad, and an unspecified foldable product with a larger display rumored to be in the works. However, new information suggests that the company’s first foldable model could be a MacBook. A reliable Apple analyst claims that the Cupertino, California-based company is working on a foldable MacBook. The update comes after Apple was said to have halted development on its foldable phone last month.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the MacBook is Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule right now. If true, it would put the rumored foldable iPhone and foldable iPad further in the pipeline. According to Kuo, the foldable Mac will have a 20.3-inch screen and will likely go into mass production in 2027.
“Recently, I’ve received a lot of inquiries about whether Apple plans to mass-produce the foldable iPhone or iPad in 2025 or 2026,” Kuo said in his post. “My latest research shows that currently the only Apple foldable product with a clear development schedule is the 20.3-inch MacBook, which is expected to enter mass production in 2027.”

The new information suggests that Apple’s foldable products are still several years away from hitting the market. Meanwhile, Samsung, Apple’s biggest rival in the mobile space, now has five generations of its clamshell-and-book folding phones. Google also launched the Pixel Fold last year and is said to be working on a second-generation device.
No details are yet available on the alleged foldable MacBook or how the folding mechanism will be integrated into the device, given that all laptops are inherently foldable. Apple has not confirmed plans for a foldable product. Most recently, the company launched two new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, both powered by the in-house M3 chipset.
A report last month said Apple was developing a foldable device larger than the iPhone, which could suggest a foldable Mac in development, in line with Kuo’s claim. The report said that the foldable big screen could come in the form of a laptop or tablet.
Doctor also said last month that Apple has halted development of a foldable phone due to issues with the foldable display. But the company is reportedly working on both a clamshell-style foldable phone and a foldable iPad, with both devices said to be in the early stages of development.
