After recent reminders, Gemini on Android gained the ability to access your Google Calendar events and create new events using voice commands. This was an important feature that was missing at launch and was on Google’s initial priority list for improvement.
Commands like “show me my calendar” or “do I have upcoming events on my calendar” will now function correctly. Earlier, users received a message from our last check on Friday that read: “Unfortunately, I still do not have access to your calendar. I’m still learning how to do it.
How does Gemini use Google Calendar to create events?
Gemini uses Google Assistant to fulfill this request, showing events online and providing a shortcut to open the full Calendar app.
You can also say “add an event to my calendar” and Gemini will prompt you to fill in the details by voice or manually. This feature should have been available from the start and is a core capability of a phone assistant. Another anticipated feature is music playback, and users are looking forward to adding items to their shopping list with Gemini.
Gemini Google Calendar support is rolling out today in the US, but may not be fully rolled out to all users yet.
