There aren’t enough movies that put movie stars in mechs and task them with saving the world. But that’s exactly what the Netflix movie is Atlas does with Jennifer Lopez.

She plays Atlas Shepard, a “brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence” who joins a team that aims to secure a renegade robot. As it happens, Atlas and said machine share a “mysterious past”, according to Netflix. Inevitably, things don’t go according to plan. Atlas finds herself stranded on a distant planet (far away from any block), inside a robot she must trust to help her protect her life back home.

The first trailer doesn’t shed much more light on the plot, but there are plenty of explosive visuals. Titanfall comes to mind here, especially since it shows a mechanism falling from the sky onto the surface. Unfortunately, this is probably the closest we’ll ever get to an actual Titanfall movie.

Atlas also stars Simu Liu and Sterling K. Brown. The film was directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage). It will appear on Netflix on May 24. Meanwhile, Team Engadget couldn’t help but come up with some alternative titles:

  • Meh in Manhattan

  • Jenny from Bot

  • It’s Meh… now
