Samsung recently said it’s looking to expand its wearable ecosystem this year and hinted heavily that it could introduce new premium smartwatch models. The company released its earnings for the first quarter of 2024 (January-March) on Tuesday and also shared its plans for the next quarter and the rest of the year. For its business, Mobile eXperience (MX) may launch new models of the Galaxy Watch and even the Galaxy Ring this year. The South Korean tech giant also plans to integrate Galaxy AI with new and existing flagship devices.
In editing post, Samsung revealed its quarterly earnings, posting a significant quarter-on-quarter growth on the back of strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S24 smartphones. The tech giant reported that its operating profits for the quarter stood at 6.61 trillion won (roughly Rs. 37 thousand crores). He also attributed the increased earnings to higher earnings posted by MX Business.
In addition to its earnings data, the company also mentioned its plans for the next quarter, as well as for the rest of the year. Notably, Samsung has emphasized that it plans to expand its wearables ecosystem. One of the ways it seeks to do so is by introducing new shapes like the Galaxy Ring. The device was recently unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, but there is no word on its release date. However, the mention highlights that the Galaxy Ring could be launched later this year. An earlier report claimed that it could go into mass production in the third quarter of the year.
The second way Samsung is looking to expand the division is by introducing new premium smartwatch models. This is interesting considering that the company currently has two smartwatches on the market – the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. However, this year it may introduce other models along with them. According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung may launch a new square or rectangular smartwatch.
This won’t be a new move either, as the company offered square smartwatches with its now-discontinued Galaxy Gear series. There are also rumors that the company may launch another smartwatch with the ‘Pro’ or ‘Ultra’ moniker and add more features to it that can be used for the new rectangular watch face.
