Amazon’s entry-level 16GB Kindle , which is 20 percent off. This is the latest iteration of the standard ereader, dating back to 2022. Amazon doesn’t do too many hardware updates to the Kindle, so we don’t know if this sale precludes an upcoming refresh. The sale includes both black and blue denim versions.

Amazon

Kindle is one of the most iconic brands in the e-reader space, and for good reason. Amazon was . This model is actually manufactured and we recommend it to anyone shopping for a budget reading tablet. We loved the price, which is even more tempting than today’s sale, and the huge selection of e-books through Amazon.

We also loved how easy it was to use. Even if you’ve never held an e-reader in your life, you’ll be flipping through pages in no time. There are a bunch of customization options that let you play with font type, font size, margins, and more. You can even save a bunch of settings together as a “theme”, which is handy in households with more than one reader. The audiobook integration is also nice, as it ensures you’ll be on the same page no matter how you digest the content.

This e-reader is not waterproof and lacks many of the extras found in more expensive models. The standard Kindle is as basic as this technology gets, but as a single-purpose device, are the extra features really necessary? I splurged on one that comes with a stylus, but kind of wish I hadn’t. Since I bought it, I’ve read about 150 books and written roughly zero notes. Simple is better and cheaper.

As with most Kindles, there are ads on the lock screen, which may be a problem for some. I totally understand the distaste for ads, they’re generally gross, but I’ve never found them to be a problem on Kindles. I barely notice them.
