Apple Pencil 3 with new features could be released later this month: Report

The Apple Pencil (3rd generation) or Apple Pencil 3 could be launched as early as this month by the tech giant, according to a new report. An earlier report highlighted that Apple is gearing up to launch multiple devices in the next two months, of which the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chipset have already been unveiled. Now the Cupertino-based company may be preparing to introduce the next-generation Apple Pencil along with new features like magnetically replaceable nibs and support for the Find My app.

The information comes from a tipster who goes by the moniker Instant Digital on Weibo (through MacRumors). According to the report, Apple will introduce the 3rd generation Apple Pencil in March 2024. This is also confirmed by an earlier report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who said that multiple new devices could be unveiled via a press release between March and April . If true, this launch will finally succeed the 2nd generation Apple Pencil that debuted in 2018. The tech giant introduced a cheaper pencil last year, but it wasn’t an update to the 2nd generation model.

Not much is known about the design and features of the Apple Pencil 3, but the report pointed to a number of upgrades it could receive. It can get a shorter body and a glossier finish, and it can get multiple magnetically interchangeable nibs that can be used for sketching in different styles. It may also get support for the Find My app, which will allow users to locate it in case it gets lost or misplaced, according to report by 9to5Mac. However, it is not known whether it will support the exact location feature. It is also expected to get a USB Type-C port.

Gurman’s report highlights that two new iPad Pro models with an OLED display could also be released soon. It is believed that the Apple Pencil 3 may arrive as its accessory. There are also rumors that a new Magic Keyboard could be unveiled alongside this. Apple’s rumored tablets could be powered by an M3 chipset, a redesigned rear camera module, a landscape-oriented front-facing camera, a thinner body, and more.
