Apple’s calculator app to get major upgrade, could be coming to iPad: Report

Apple may be making some significant changes to its Calculator app across its product lines, including bringing it to the iPad, according to a new report. With the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) coming up on June 10, iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 are expected to be previewed during the keynote session. Multiple reports have highlighted that the Calculator app could get the spotlight at the event with new macOS upgrades, integration with the Notes app, and its first iPad appearance.

According to a report from MacRumors, the Cupertino-based tech giant is preparing to release a dedicated calculator app for the iPad, 14 years after the tablet’s launch. Citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter, the report mentions that the iPadOS 18 update will include a built-in calculator app for all iPad models that will support the next operating system update.

macOS may get new features to the Calculator app

However, it’s not just the iPad that will get a calculator-focused upgrade. According to a report from AppleInsider, the existing Calculator app on macOS could also see a significant upgrade. The report highlights that the tech giant is testing new features in an upgraded version of the app codenamed ‘GreyParrot’. The new app will undergo a redesigned design and may look similar to its iOS counterpart with rounded buttons.

Resizing the app can also be possible with resizable window feature. Expanding the window is said to turn the round buttons into a pill shape. Additionally, the app can get a history bar feature that will display the previous calculations done through the Calculator app. The report claims that the history bar feature will get its own dedicated button and a version of it will be available for the basic, science and software versions of the app.

Math Notes feature in iOS 18

The iPhone is also rumored to get a new calculator-related feature. According to a separate report from AppleInsider, the iOS 18 update may integrate the Notes app with the calculator through a feature called Math Notes. While details remain unknown, the feature is believed to export the calculation information to a separate note, allowing users to keep a record of it or add to the information.
